Sorry to those of you who have missed me, but I spent several weeks in Australia, New Zealand and – now – Hong Kong. I saved my comments since I thought that most swedes would be asleep, taking that extra holiday between Dec 19 and Jan 8 and not care about a blog more or less.
In deed I could do like my friend Carl Bildt and describe my feelings on board airplanes etc. but I wonder if anybody would be interested!?
”Wer eine Reise macht, hat etwas zu erzahlen” and my story is that Australia is the oldest continent in the world and has its own ecological system, carefully avoiding imports of animals and plants. If you try you might end up in jail!
New Zealand has very much the same background but completely unique ecology. No snakes, no big animals, no spiders. The landscape looks like a mix of Scotland and Sweden.
People in both countries are rather cynical on how they have been used in other peoples wars for hundreds of years. They were in World Wars I and II, in the Korean war, the Vietnam war and are now in Iraq and Afghanistan! They definitely have done and do more than anybody could ask. ”But we dont like the British to take command over our troops!!”
And people seem to be much more objective and sensible when it comes to the Ghaza conflict and similar international problems. Now and then I surf to Swedish newspapers, who sound enormously biased compared to all others except the arabs themselves; anti Israel, pro Hamas. The Swedish debate actually seems less intelligent and more socialistic. Tools of the Talibans, or?!
Anyhow the world does not think as the Swedes. And they have no Mona Sahlin pictured next to the flag of Hamas. Is Olof Palme back in the streets of Stockholm?
Finally: How dare these foreigners make sensible comments on the international situation without asking for Aftonbladets approval?!
